17. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

Author’s note: I recently stumbled upon my old blog and have decided to resurrect random poems/essays/whatevers from my past here. A lot of it is painfully awkward and simplistic (who wasn’t that way in their twenties?), but I’m hoping it will be fun (for me, at least) to visit my 2003-2009 self again.

Before I get to the awkward stuff, here’s one from 2004 that I enjoyed writing. My goal was to see if I could do a longform, free-flowing poem where I progress my way back-and-forth through the alphabet (A to B to C to D etc etc and then backwards from Z — back and forth), word by word. I probably did this for a creative writing class, but who knows? All I do know is that this took forever to write.

Going home, inside justice.
Killing little men, never opening possibilities.
Quit restarting semi-secondly the universal violence workshop.
X-chromosomal yearning zygotes.
Awkward boys can’t dance & Everybody forgets girls health.
Incompatible jealousies kick-start lunacy.
Mistakenly, nothing omnipotent presently questions religious sex
that undermines Vatican wanting X-rated youthful zillionaires.

Zellweger yesterday xeroxed weight-loss volumes,
understanding that she rejects quarter-pounders.
Other nice McDonalds lunches killed.
Jog into Hades.
Gigantic fries end deliciously
cellulite buttocks,
all
zippers
yanked

Xenophobic worldwide violence.
Under the Stars-and-Stripes, religious quests perpetuate outrage.
New macabre lifestyles kill judiciously.
Iraq.
Hazy ground-zero.
Forgotten embers, dead civilians burn amidst ziplocked youths;
xanax war visions undermine the starving refugees.

Quit procrastinating.
One new message: Luminate Knowledge.
Just invest here…
Go further.

Everybody does care
but a beautiful cancer deserves exorcism.
Free ghosts held inside.
Just know life makes no obviously problematic questions ready served.
The undertaker victoriously weeps, x-raying your zeal.

ABbra CaDabra. Enough futile governing.
Halt injustice.
Jokingly kill little minded neoconservatives on penetrable questions.
Refuse stupidity that undermines vaginas;
whomever XOXO’s your zeroes.

Apathetic bourgeoisie classes demand elementary fundamentalism
grounded here in justifiable know-how.
Limitless mankind never opening potential questions.
Respect societies that unite vagabond world-views &
x-intercepting yuppie zions.
